Moving season is here. There are a lot of things to factor into making that decision to leave that which is familiar and venture out into a different part of the city…or at least a new unit. Here are somethings to think about:
- Commute to places you frequent – Yes work is important but if you often spend time at the Lake consider your commute there as well. Similarly if you are going out at night, taking classes or hanging out with significant other or old friends keep that commute time in mind when considering a new place to live.
- Parking situation – is it included? More importantly how is parking in the neighborhood? For visitors locally or travelling.
- Pet friendly units, buildings & Neighborhoods – is it allowed in the unit. Probably since you moved there but is the building very pet frinedly? How conciencus do you need to be when entering and leaving the building? Is the neighborhood? Are there parks? Are they well maintained? is your dog ok with only walking on asphalt? All things that should play into the decision.
- Accessibility – Is it acessible for the way you travel? CTA? Bike? heel toe express? Car? Close to the highway for the road warriors? Close to either airport?
- What happens during the winter – As we all know everything looks different from December to March. A neighborhood that works in the summer might not later and vice versa.
- Cost – Is this a step up to find a more liveable situation or a step down to save money for travel or buying a place? Either way you need to have a focused plan for how to acomplish your goals.
