Yes there are many more transportation options than ther was when I was a young man in the early 2000s but parking is still very important in this city and something that should be considered in any move. How often do they street weep? How do you use your car? Do you only drive on the weekends? Is it for commuting or are you a “road warrior” who essentially uses it as a mobile office? You need a plan because there is nothing worse than returning home from a long day at work, taking an extra 20 minutes to park, only to get home and find some drunken suburbanite using the bathroom on the side of your building. Here are some of the important factors to consider.
- how is street parking your new neighborhood ? – Not just if there is any. If you move to an apartment near the lake on the north side you will need to have a plan or preferably a spot you can rent. Same for if it is near a college or a pro stadium.
- Is it’s near a pro stadium? – The Chicago Bears have 8 regular season home games, Bulls and blackhawks 41, Cubs and White Sox 81, that is not counting concerts and special events.
- How important parking is to you? – If a commuting car maybe renting a space is a solution if a tavelling account executive a local parking garage my keep your company car safe and sound. These are more often than not indoors.
- Buy a city AND neighborhood (if required to park) sticker – it’s the smart choice to ensure you don’t get tickets.
